Job Title: Marketing and Publishing Intern

Company: I run a non-profit music criticism site: www.musiccityreview.com. The immediate purpose of the site is to cover music in the Nashville metropolitan area, including jazz, classical, and traditional music.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the position will primarily be creating and copy editing content. Accepting emailed reviews from writers, checking them for basic grammar and legibility, then posting them (as draft for my approval) to the website. Attending occasional concerts and writing appropriate critical reviews. I would like the intern to help to develop a writing style sheet to promote consistency on the website. Also, revising press releases and updating the concert calendar with area performances. Finally, the “constant gardening” required of Social Media. Thus primary skills would be

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with WordPress web software
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge (and interest) in Western Music History

Additional duties will include researching all local, state and federal grant opportunities and providing assistance in writing the applications for these grants.

  • Strong Communication and Organization skills
  • Good research skills
  • Basic proficiency in software: MS Office
  • Ability to work independently

This 15-20 hour per week position will provide great experience for work in the non-profit world as well as skills that will reward you in a graduate program. Some of the work may be accomplished remotely (from a home computer). Any of the skills above are negotiable as long as there is an active interest in learning.
