Echoes of Mind and Soul: One Hundred Years of Music in the Bach Family

May 5 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Echoes of Mind and Soul: 100 Years of Music in the Bach Family

Join Music City Baroque on May 5, at 4 pm, as we celebrate 100 Years of Music in the illustrious Bach family—a dynasty of composers whose musical genius has left their indelible mark on listeners up to this day. We are very happy to welcome back Stephen Redfield as guest artist (violin) and concertmaster for this afternoon’s performance.

We will perform Johannes Sebastian Bach’s enticing Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 (BWV 1049), Wilhelm Friedemann Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto in A-Minor (F45) with Malcolm Matthews on harpsichord, Johann Christoph Bach’s evocative lament  “Ach, dass ich Wassers gnug hätte”  and “Kommt, ihr angefochtnen Sünder” from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cantata BWV 30 with Mareike Sattler (alto), and the unusual trio-sonata “Gespräch zwischen einem Sanguineus und Melancholicus”, in which Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach uses the force of music alone to create a persuasive musical dialog between the two opposing moods of Sanguineus and Melancholicus.

Join us for an afternoon of music that engages the mind and touches the soul!
