Stravinsky to Marsalis

September 28, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join Intersection as we explore a concert of success, power and the depths people will descend to achieve them. Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du soldat – which translates to The Soldier’s Tale – tells the story of a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil in exchange for wealth. Wynton Marsalis’s A Fiddler’s Tale responds to Stravinsky’s tragic work with a modern ear, bringing deeper jazz and contemporary influences to this timeless story. Stravinsky to Marsalis is an evening of music, dance and theatre featuring 7 virtuoso instrumentalists, conducted by Kelly Corcoran, directed by Jon Royal, with original choreography by Gerald Watson. The evening features Stravinsky’s blend of jazz and classical with innovative instrumentation and dance that encouraged composers including Marsalis to follow in his footsteps. The performance takes place on the 100-year anniversary of L’Histoire du soldat’s premiere to the date, so bring your friends and family to celebrate a re-imagining of this important work.
