Crucifixion Resurrection: Nine Souls a-Traveling

February 9, 2019 @ 6:00 pm

Crucifixion Resurrection is a requiem composed by Hannibal Lokumbe in 2017 for jazz ensemble, chorus, narrators and vocal soloists. The work honors the nine victims of the mass shooting at Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina and features acclaimed tenor Roderik Dixon and Grammy Award-winning bassist David Pulphus. This event concludes Intersection’s weeklong residency with Lokumbe.

Pre-concert activities include a 6pm “Walk of Love” exploring the campus and history of Fisk University and “Remembering Birmingham,” at 6:20pm, with Sarah Collins, Survivor of the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing in Birmingham in 1963, where Ms. Collins shares her story of survival, loss and resilience. Hannibal requests that community members joining for the “Walk of Love” wear white.
