Coming Soon: Le Grand Bal
Compagnie Dyptik is bringing its dance theater hit, Le Grand Bal, from France to the United States – and its premiere will be right here in Nashville!
Overwhelmed by the consequences of confinement and the crisis of modern life, the nine performers attempt to free themselves through dance. The performers become enraptured in a frenetic trance, surrendering their bodies to movement.
Inspired by the famous Dancing Plague of 1518 in Strasbourg, Alasce, the creators use the sweeping frenzy to evoke a potent metaphor for collective catharsis. They describe La Grand Bal as “a dance of revolt and ecstasy,” that features a mix of Hip-Hop and contemporary movements and music, as well as sophisticated lightning design.
