Bar Dykes at the Darkhorse
An ode to Queer resilience, Bar Dykes takes place in a lesbian bar over the course of one night in the late 1950’s. It explores pre-Stonewall lesbian culture, relationships, roles and courtship rituals. The play was written by Merril Mushroom, an 84-year-old lesbian who, as a teenager in 1950’s Florida, came out as a lesbian during the Lavender Scare. October 11 is National Coming Out day, and Chinkapin Craftstead presents this play as an act of strengthening the resilience of the intergenerational Queer community. Older lesbians get to see their stories honored and celebrated. Most of the actors in the play are Trans or non-binary.
Bar Dykes will be at the Darkhorse Theater October 10-11. More tickets and more information about Chinquapin Craftstead, see their website.
